Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame

The INDIANA BASEBALL HALL OF FAME recognizes the accomplishments of Hoosiers who were professional players, managers/coaches; high school / college coaches; and those who have made contributions to our beloved game. We would like to ad, to our web site, a section that would recognize contributions of those outside our state whose love for the game of baseball has been their driving force in doing great things for young people in their area.

Our first such outstanding contributor is MARK SHERMAN of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida who has been named MVP of the year for the David Posnack Jewish Community Center because of his commitment and dedication to the Center for the past 18 years. He has served the Center in numerous capacities, and has been its executive director since 1988.

Mark is a man of passion for his family, for his work, and especially for baseball. In fact, the entire MVP event is being celebrated around a baseball theme. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he avidly followed his home team, the Brooklyn Dodgers, since he was five years old. His favorite players were Duke Snider, Jackie Robinson and Roy Campanella.

He used the lessons in courage and integrity learned from these childhood heroes as a guide in conducting his own life. He admired the courage of Jackie Robinson in breaking the race barrier and Robinson’s friendship with Pee Wee Reese. He respected and enjoyed the rivalry between the Dodgers and the Giants. Mark’s most memorable baseball moment came when he met his hero Duke Snider in August 2000. His favorite and cherished memento is a photograph of his father with Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese.

The INDIANA BASEBALL HALL OF FAME would like to join the folks at the Center in congratulating Mark on his selection as MVP. The Hall of Fame has further congratulated Mark by getting him a ball signed by Carl Erskine, a Hall of Fame member, a teammate to Mark’s favorite Dodger players, and one of Indiana’s finest.
