Dick Siler

Dick retired in 1997 after 30 years of head
coaching, five of those at Elkhart High School and the last 25 at
Elkhart Memorial High School. His career record of 943 games includes
576 wins, 355 losses and 15 ties. That is a winning percentage of
.618. He is currently in his third year as an assistant coach at
Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana.
He is a longtime member of the ABCA and the IHSBCA,
and a charter member of the BCA. He chaired or was a member of
committees for all three organizations. He served as President of the
IHSBCA in 1990-91, and during that time took part in the
ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame.
Dick was inducted into the Ashland County, Ohio, Sports Hall of Fame
in 1998. He took his 1992 team to the state finals and coached the
North All Stars during that summer series.
Dick and wife Marge have been married 43 ;years and
have three children and six grandchildren. Their son Scott also
coached baseball for eight years and currently umpires many high
school games in the South Bend area. Their daughters Laurie and Julie
served as bat girls and scorekeepers during their school years and are
still avid fans of the game.
