Pat is a 1976 graduate of Kokomo High School where he lettered 3 years
in Football and 4 years in Baseball. Pat was the quarterback of the
worst Football team in KHS history going 0 and 10, but he faired a much
better fate in baseball. Pat is the record holder to-date in two Indiana
pitching categories, Strikeouts (637) and Shutouts (22), and is among
the top ten in 5 other Indiana pitching categories. For his efforts, Pat
was selected a baseball first team all-state 3 years and an all-American
his senior year.
Pat signed a full ride scholarship to pitch for the
University of Missouri before he was taken as the 2nd pick in the Nation
and 1st pick of the Detroit Tigers in 1976. Hard to turned down a
$75,000 signing bonus, Pat begin his professional career June 20th 1976
and made his major league debut against his brother Tom on May 31st,
1979. Pat played three years in the big leagues, having his best year in
1980 going 3 and 6 with 5 saves.
Pat retired from professional baseball in 1985 due to ligament damage
to his pitching elbow. Pat began a new career finishing his college
education and raising his children with wife Debbie. After receiving his
undergraduate degree from Indiana University and Masters from Wesleyan
University, Pat went to work for Delphi Electronics & Safety where he
works in Quality Engineering. Pat is the proud parent of two boys Ryan
and Evan who also love baseball and who have given his parents countless
thrills watching them grow up on the diamond. Pat credits his Mom and
Dad, brothers, sister and wife Debbie for their constant support and
love for our great pastime. This enable him to continue and better his
game, and helped him become the 124th inductee into the Indiana Hall of
Fame. |
