Jasper, IN

Don began his coaching career at Parker High School and coached there from 1959—1961 during which his teams won three conference championships. In the 1962-63 seasons he coached at Middlebury High School and they were the conference champs in 1963. In 1964 he began an eight year coaching career at Jasper High School where his teams won 114 games. The high school baseball state tournament began during his coaching tenure at Jasper and he put the Wildcats in the first two state finals in 1967 and 1968.

In addition his teams shared the championship of the SIAC in 1967, racked up four consecutive sectional and regional titles from 1967-1970, achieving the semi-state titles and a berth in the final four in 1967-68.

Don founded the Jasper Baseball Clinic which still exists today, and was a speaker at the first IHSAA baseball clinic. He was one of the founding members of the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame and was most instrumental in securing the Hall of Fame location in Jasper.

In school administration for 27 years as assistant principal, 6 years; principal, 16 years; athletic director, 6 years, and was a recipient of the Charles Maas Distinguished Service Award. He closed his career as the superintendent of Jasper Schools for five years. He served the IHSAA as a member of the Board of Directors for six years, for two years he served on the Executive Committee and was the Chairman of the IHSAA Executive Committee for one year.

Don is married to Alice and they have five grown children Laura, Bob, Donna, Amy and Andy and reside in Jasper.
