five seasons as the coach at Knightstown High School where he won
another 84 and lost 40 to bring Bills overall record to 795-349

victories and ranks him number ten in the nation in baseball wins.
In addition to his baseball duties he spent eight
seasons as head football coach and eleven years as an assistant
football coach compiling a record of 65-21 with four Conference Titles
and in 1977 was the IHSAA Class AA state champions with a perfect 13-0

The baseball field at Plymouth is named after him,
Nixon Field. The 25th IHSBCA All Star games were held at
Plymouth in 1999 and Bill, along with a stellar committee from the
Plymouth area, put on the finest All Star Series to date.
In 1999 Ball State University recognized him as the
alumni Coach of the Year. He is the only graduate of BSU to be named
coach of the year in two sports. He was also named Indiana Coach of
the Year by the NFCA.
