Dennis Kas

Dennis graduated from LaPorte High School in 1970 and Anderson University in 1974. His first coaching position came at Clinton Prairie High School during the 1982 season. In that first year, Prairie went 21-5 and defeated 3rd ranked Western to capture the school’s first sectional championship. During the five years that Kas led Prairie’s program, his teams went 89-37 with three Rangeline Conference crowns, two Clinton County tournament titles, and two IHSAA Sectional Championships. He was named Lafayette Regional Coach of the Year in 1982 and in 1986.

Coach Kas was hired to take over Noblesville High School’s program in 1987, a position that he remains in today. In his 13 years at Noblesville, the Millers have won 279 games while losing 125 as of 1999. They have been ranked in the state’s Top 20 Coaches’ Poll for 10 of those years including a #1 ranking in 1997. Under Kas’s direction the Millers have won 2 Olympic Conference Titles, 3 Sectional titles, and the only Regional title in the school’s history. Kas has been named Hamilton County Coach of the Year 4 times; the Sheridan Regional Coach of the Year in 1987, 1991, and 1992; and district 3 Coach of the Year in 1999.

In 18 years as a varsity coach Kas owns an overall record of 368-162, a winning percentage of .694, and an average season record of 20-9. His teams have won 20 or more games in 14 different seasons, including a string of 8 seasons in a row. During his career Coach Kas has had 37 players go on to play collegiately; 3 players signed to professional contracts; 9 Indiana North/South players; 9 All State players; 9 Academic All State players; 1 National All District player; and 1 Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year.

Kas has been very active in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association, having served on a variety of committees. He was the State Clinic chairman for 10 years and served as president of the organization in 1991-92, and serves as president currently, 1999. He has served as a board member and coach for the Indiana Bulls, an elite summer baseball travel program, and was coach on the 16 year old squad which captured the 1999 N.A.B.F. National Championship. He has served as an associate scout with the Pittsburgh Pirates for 13 years before recently aligning himself with the Atlanta Braves.

Kas has three children; Jade, a 1999 graduate of IUPUI and two-time MVP for the baseball team; Austan, age 14 and Cheyenne, age 12 who are Frankfort Middle School Students
