Birthplace: Bedford, IN



After a 28 year coaching career at Greensburg Community High School, Edgewood High School, Bedford, and Bedford North Lawrence High School his record stands at 420 wins and 155 losses. Included in those many victories were ten Sectional Championships, three Regional Crowns, two semistate Titles which means two Final Four appearances in 1975 and 1977. In 1972 the SIAC Conference Title belonged to Bedford. In 1975 Orval was an assistant coach in the first North-South All Star Series ever held and in 1977 was the head coach for the South All Stars.

Four of his outstanding players were Dan Miracle, catcher, who played for ISU; Mark Roberts, pitcher, who played four seasons at David Lipscomb College; Steve Martin, shortstop, who played at Carson-Newman College and Larry Ridge, pitcher, who played at Morehead State. Roberts, Martin, and Ridge were selected as All State players and played in the North-South All Star Series.
