Coach - Lafayette Jefferson High School

He spent 22 years coaching at Lafayette Jeff, 16 as head coach, from 1960-75, serving as assistant the previous six years. His overall record at Jeff is 404-70-1, an outstanding win percentage of .851. During his tenure he is one of only a handful of coaches who won more than one state championship turning the trick in 1969 and 1973. In 1971 his Jeff squad finished as the state runner-up. Eight times his teams won the tough North Central Conference title, and eight times Spider was selected the conference Coach of the Year. When the state tourney began in 1967 his teams began an undefeated sectional title string that lasted through his retirement in 1975, 25-0, winning nine titles. To go along with that Jeff won eight regional titles and three semi-state crowns.

He also spent time with the Lafayette Legion program from 1953-56 in which they were state champs in ’53 and’54,as well as the National Regional champs in ’54.

He was an original member of the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association and was an organizer of the association serving on the executive council for three years.
