Bob Schellinger graduated from SB St. Joseph’s High School and Illinois Benedictine. He served in the capacity of a head baseball coach and an umpire so his impact on the sport was felt in multiple aspects. As a coach, he was in the dugout for 26 seasons; 10 as an assistant coach at South Central (Union Mills) and LaPorte. He served as the head coach at South Central for 16 seasons with a career record of 348 123 (.718%) and is the winningest coach in school history; won the sectional in 1992 and 1993; had 12 Spring Classic championships; and was twice IHSBCA Regional COTY. In 2000, he was an assistant coach for the state champion LaPorte Slicer baseball team. Bob has been a licensed baseball umpire for 46 years; including 17 sectional assignments; 11 regionals; 5 semistates; and 4 state final games.

He has umpired the IHSBCA North-South series 3 times, was IHSBCA UOTY 4 times, St. Joe Valley Official of the Year in 2014, and IHSAA/ NFOA Umpire of the Year in 2017. Bob coached in the state football finals as the head coach of the LaPorte Slicers and they finished runners-up to the Cathedral Irish. He also coached in the state baseball finals as an assistant, along with being there 4 times as an umpire; quite a unique feat.

Bob and his wife Lorri have 5 children: Tricia, Rob, Mark, Kevin, Danny and 4 grandsons. He is still a teacher at LaPorte High School.
